Power Sri Lanka Exhibition at Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre

Vidullanka wins a 5S Award

Vidullanka PLC, Batathota Mini Hydro Power Plant won a 5S Merit Award for the successful implementation of 5S concept at the fourteenth Taiki Akimoto 5S Competition for the year 2009. Batatota Mini Hydro Power plant, which is of 2MW capacity, became the first ever Mini Hydro Power Plant to win a 5S Award in the Mini Hydro Power sector in Sri Lanka. The competition was organized by the Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA).

Vidullanka PLC has taken steps to implement 5S concept to all its power plants situated in various districts in Sri Lanka.


Vidullanka Commissions its 4th Power Project

Vidullanka commissioned its fourth mini hydropower project, "Ganthuna Mini Hydro Power Project" located in Kegalle District. The project is of 1.2 MW capacity and is expected to generate annual energy of 4.12 Gwh. The project was constructed under Gurugoda Hydro (Pvt) Ltd which is jointly held by Vidullanka plc and Hirdaramani (Pvt)Ltd. The construction of the project was carried out by Vidul Construction Limited.

Vidullanka embarks on its Fourth Mini Hydro Power Project

Vidullanka PLC embarked on its fourth mini hydro power project, “Ganthuna Mini Hydro Power Project”, which is of 1.2Mw capacity and is located in Kegalle district. Vidullanka Enhances its Power Generation

Vidullanka commissioned its third mini hydropower project that was developed in partnership with Elpitiya plantations Ltd on 10th October 2008. The project is of a total of 560kW installed capacity with an estimated annual production of 2.3GWh. Its location is at Pundaluoya Oya Sheen estate in the Nuwara Eliya district and the water course used is a main branch stream of the river Pundaluoya Oya. After signing the formal agreement with Elpitiya, Vidul launched its team on the implementation activities on 26th January 2008. The Vidul team is proud to state that the project was fully implemented and commissioned within a very short time period of less than 9 months in spite of ordeal encountered in construction of 1.05km long penstock pipe line. The commissioning of this plant will now enhance the Company’s energy Generation to 22.3 Gwh from the current 20 Gwh. This power plant commenced construction in February 2008. It is situated in the scenic Pundaluoya area. The plant is a ‘Run-of-the-River’ and utilizes the branch area of Pundaluoya as its water source. The machines will collectively produce 560 KW of hydroelectric power, which will be sold only to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) governed by a 20 year Standard Power Purchase Agreement, which in turn, will divert the energy supplies to its customer’s Island wide. The plant infrastructure is sited on a total land extent of approximately 0.6 Ha, and the construction consisted of a flow diversion weir, Headrace channel, Forebay tank, Penstock Pipe, Powerhouse and a Tailrace easily accessible by road. The plant & machinery installed at the power house are of European manufacturer. The Company is duly proud of being able to successfully commission its third hydro plant for the entireness efforts of the Board, Management, Staff, workforce and our Shareholders and Stakeholders for their continued loyalty and support placed in the Company.

Celebration: - In celebrating its 10 years in business last week with a simple and elegant event at Silverey Restaurant in Palmadulla Ratnapura. The highlights of the celebrations was to recognize & award Vidullanka’s longstanding staff members who has completed 5 years of service. Riyaz Sangani – Managing Director of the company addressed the gathering by presenting Vidullanka’s history, the Journey of success & business achievements over the 10 years. Currently the company owns & operates 2 Mini Hydro Projects which contributes 5.2 MW to the National Grid and entered into solar power through it’s subsidiary. It is exploring opportunities in the renewable energy source.
Vidullanka Enhances its Power Generation

He Second Small Hydro Power Plant of Vidullanka the ‘Batatota Small Hydro Power Project’ is now connected to the National Grid. The CEB has approved and authorized the grid connection for the entire capacity of 2 MW, which will now enhance the Company’s energy Generation to 20 Gwh from the current 12 Gwh.

Further it will surpass the total consolidated Investment over Rs 500 million and will be entitled for the ten year tax holiday as recommended by the Board of Investment of Srilanka.

This power plant commenced construction in End October 2005. It is situated in the scenic Batatota area, Erathne Kuruwita a region with high rainfall in the Sabragamuwa District. The plant is a ‘Run-of-the-River’ and utilizes the Kuru Ganga as its water source. The machines will collectively produce 2 MW of hydroelectric power, which will be sold only to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) governed by a 15 year Standard Power Purchase Agreement, which in turn, will divert the energy supplies to its customer’s Island wide.

The Company carried out comprehensive feasibility studies and has obtained Government, CEB, Central Environmental Authority and Local authority approvals, utilizing appropriate manpower and technical expertise towards this project. The project team was headed by the General Manager-Hydro Power Division Mr. P.M. Suraweera from the inception stage of identification of the site location to the final stages of constructing & commissioning the plant.

The plant infrastructure is sited on a total land extent of approximately 1.64 Ha, and the construction consisted of a flow diversion weir, Headrace channel, Forebay tank, Powerhouse and a Tailrace channel easily accessible by road. The plant & machinery installed at the powerhouse are a combination of European & Chinese manufacturer.

Vidullanka has fulfilled its Corporate Social Responsibilities and the Company’s efforts have given hope and opened up a vista of opportunities to a number of families in this area .New roads were constructed; a suspension bridge across Kuru Ganga was completely refurbished. A significant contribution was made by the Company on Rural electrification, where the Company funded a Grid connection line from the CEB, which provides electricity for approximately 35 households. A building in the school has been renovated which is amongst other community development projects undertaken by the Company.

Vidullanka Rights Issue Fully Subscribed

The Rights Issue of Vidullanka Ltd was fully subscribed and closed at 4.30 pm on the 26th May 2006. The issue that raised Rs 60 Mn was to fund the company’s second 2-MW Batatota Mini hydro project. The company wishes to thank the shareholders for the trust and confidence placed by them in the company.
