Wind power as an alternative source of energy is a fledgling energy sector in Sri Lanka and is yet to be fully developed.
However there is great potential for doing so, as Sri Lanka experiences strong wind patterns in suitable locations for successful harnessing of this pollution-free resource.
Presently there is an established wind farm in Hambantota on the south eastern coast, of 3 MW capacity, and a pilot project running a wind turbine to provide power to 12 village homes in Gurugoda in the north western province.
Vidullanka’s initiative is to develop wind power generation in Sri Lanka and export our expertise to the region. Our pilot wind power project is progressing in Ambewela in the hill country with a projected 1.1 MW capacity.
