Vidullanka PLC commissioned its 8th mini hydro power plant in Kothmale, Nuwara-Eliya. The Lower Kotmale Mini Hydro Power Project, with the installed capacity of 4 MW was connected to the national grid in 25th June 2014. The project annually generates and transmits 13.1GWh of environmental friendly electricity under the standard power purchasing agreement with the Ceylon electricity board.
The Project Company, Lower Kotmale Minihydro PVt Ltd is a joint venture between Vidullanka PLC and the Consortium of Investors led by Jaywise Constructions Ltd. The project utilizes the flow of Kothmale Oya and annually reduces the country’s carbon emission by 8,225 tonns. Vidullanka PLC continues to venture into the development of small hydro power projects both in Sri Lanka and overseas and have several projects in the pipeline.
